Peter's first victory for farm animals

Peter took a veal farm in West Sussex to court, alleging cruelty under two Acts of Parliament. While media interest was intense, he ultimately lost the case. However it raised awareness of the suffering caused in veal production and paved the way for the UK government voting in 1987 to ban veal crates from 1990. The Ministry of Agriculture insisted on Peter attending the event where the announcement to ban these crates was made. Continued pressure from Peter and others at Compassion in World Farming ensured that a Europe-wide ban was agreed in 1996 and came into force in 2007.
