Compassion in World Farming is founded

Created by Compassion in World Farming 13 years ago
Early in their marriage, Peter and Anna built up their heard of Guernsey cows. At one point, an adviser at the Ministry of Agriculture suggested that it would be more profitable to raise chickens intensively. This method of farming horrified Peter, and he decided to take a stance. He eventually founded Compassion in World Farming to change the direction that farming was taking. Initially, he and Anna worked out of their home. Over the years that followed, Peter gathered many loyal supporters and began to take on paid staff. An office was set up in Petersfield, Hampshire and, in 2007, Peter’s charity moved to larger offices in Godalming, Surrey. Today, Compassion in World Farming has 60 employees, 60,000 supporters and representation in 11 countries. Through investigations, research and education, it continues to influence policy making to improve the lives of farm animals around the world.
